CHARACTERS
*NOTE: ages listed are stage ages, not exact ages of the actor(s)

Greg Heffley — Male
Strong comedic performer with a powerful, unchanged singing voice. Strong head voice, belt, and rapping skills.

11-year-old (we are looking for close to this age), first-year middle schooler driven by a burning desire to achieve popularity and acclaim at any cost. Equal parts cocky and insecure, Greg’s single-minded focus on popularity often makes him short-sighted and immature, nearly costing him his closest friendship.

We’re looking for a performer who can be vulnerable and natural in Greg’s struggles, especially in his friendship with Rowley. Vocal Range: G3 – D5

Rowley Jefferson — Male
Strong comedic performer with a powerful, unchanged singing voice.

11-year-old (we are looking for close to this age), first-year middle schooler with a determinedly sunny disposition and an über-positive outlook on life. Almost blindly devoted to Greg, but ultimately capable of standing up for himself.

We’re looking for someone with a cheery voice, strong comedic timing, and cheeky humor. Rowley should read as the most likable character in the show. Vocal Range: Ab3 – F5

Rodrick Heffley — Male
Strong comedic performer with a powerful singing voice and commanding presence.

Sullen, sarcastic 16-year-old older brother of Greg and his primary tormentor. Brash and obnoxious, Rodrick is the frontman of the heavy-metal garage band Löded Diper and delights in torturing Greg while testing their parents’ patience.

We’re looking for a performer who carries a carefree confidence and fully embraces the rock-and-roll energy of the role. Very true to the movie. Vocal Range: Ab2 – F4

Frank Heffley — Male
Strong comedic performer and singer.

Greg’s put-upon father, who has a deep interest in U.S. history and an equally deep distrust of teenagers. Uncomfortable talking about his tweens, Frank is always trying to toughen Greg up and push him to “go be active,” perhaps to prevent his son from becoming as wimpy as he fears he once was.

We’re looking for someone who brings authority and vulnerability beneath the comedy. Vocal Range: A2 – G#4

Susan Heffley — Female
Strong comedic performer and singer.

Greg’s chipper, loving, and overly supportive mother. A former preschool teacher, Susan is always searching for “teachable moments” with her boys. While she sees the best in her kids (sometimes to a fault), she is also quick to step in as the household disciplinarian when needed.

We’re looking for someone who carries poise, warmth, and complete lack of embarrassment. Vocal Range: A3 – C5

Manny Heffley — Male or Female
Strong comedic young performer of any gender to portray a toddler. Greg and Rodrick’s impossibly adorable and wildly spoiled baby brother. Manny enjoys exalted status as his parents constantly dote on him and excuse his behavior.

Chirag Gupta or Duane Higgins — Male
If we cast a South Asian performer, they will play Chirag Gupta; otherwise, the role will be Duane Higgins.

Strong comedic performer with a powerful, unchanged singing voice. Greg’s quick-witted classmate and enthusiastic participant in a years-long prank war.

We’re looking for excellent diction, rapping ability, and strong comedic instincts. Vocal Range: Bb3 – Bb4

Patty Farrell — Female
Strong comedic performer with a powerful singing voice and mischievous presence.

Ambitious, driven, overachieving, and slightly unhinged. Patty has been Greg’s nemesis ever since he poured glitter glue down her back in second grade. An angel in front of teachers, terrifying when alone with Greg.

We’re looking for bold choices, strong stage command, and fearless confidence. Vocal Range: G3 – E5

Fregley — Male
Strong comedic performer with a powerful, unchanged singing voice and committed character voice. Greg’s deeply oddball classmate who is sensitive to sugar and unapologetically fascinated by his own boogers.

We’re looking for someone who fully commits to Fregley’s weirdness and embraces physical comedy. Vocal Range: B3 – D#5

Bryce Anderson — Male
Strong comedic performer. Greg’s dreamboat classmate who thrives on popularity and adoration. Known for cutting remarks and early maturity.

Joshie — Male
Strong, comedic performer and singer with pop chops. European teen pop star and Rowley’s idol. Think Gunter from Sing, plus Gazelle from Zootopia, plus HUNTR/X from K-Pop Demon Hunters. Joshie is manufactured to make responsibility sound cool to 6–8-year-old girls.

His motto: Follow your dreams & respect your parents!

We’re looking for someone who can command the stage the way a famous pop star would and who is comfortable and confident wearing extravagantly over-the-top costumes. Vocal Range: C#2 – D#4

Chris / Christine Hosey & Lionel / Leona James — Male or Female
Strong comedic performers and singers. Two of the most unpopular and nerdy kids in middle school. Distinct from Fregley, these roles work best with performers who can create funny, twin-like characterizations. They are a comedically matched duo with exaggerated, synchronized mannerisms.  Vocal Range: B3 – C5

Paulene & Yvette — Female
Strong comedic performers and singers. Patty Farrell’s devoted minions. They like what she likes and dislike what she dislikes—especially Greg.

We’re looking for performers who fully support Patty’s energy and bring strong “mean girls” dynamics. Vocal Range: Bb3 – C5

Claire — Female
Strong comedic performer and powerful singer. A goth-in-training middle schooler and keeper of the lore of the Cheese Touch. Claire takes it upon herself to ensure the curse never returns.

We’re looking for someone expressive, animated, and confident in stylized movement. Vocal Range: G3 – E5

Mr. Winsky — Male
Comedic older male performer. Faculty advisor of the school’s Safety Patrol, treating the role as though he’s leading the FBI or a special ops unit.

We’re looking for a performer with a “trailer narrator” voice and unwavering seriousness. Vocal Range: A3 – F4

Bill Walter — Male
Comedic performer. A 35-year-old unemployed rocker who still lives with his parents and plays in Löded Diper. Think “acts cool, is not.”

We’re looking for someone with strong comic timing and commitment.

Mrs. Clayton — Female
Strong comedic performer and singer. Greg’s no-nonsense English teacher and enthusiastic host of the Winter Talent Show. One eyebrow permanently raised.

We’re looking for someone intimidating, observant, and always slightly suspicious.

Fregley’s Mom — Female
Strong comedic performer and singer. A creepy, frail, and possibly supernatural elderly woman. She could be a ghost.

We’re looking for someone who matches Fregley’s odd energy and feels delightfully unsettling. Vocal Range: B3 – C5

Vice Principal Roy — Male or Female
Commanding but monotonous voice heard over the school loudspeakers.

Dancers
Diary of a Wimpy Kid offers numerous opportunities for strong dancers. Choreography is featured throughout the show, including high-energy numbers such as The Cheese Touch, All About the Mom Bucks, Animal Heart, and Rodrick Rules. Dancers are also integrated into multiple scenes to drive storytelling, enhance transitions, and create dynamic stage pictures.

Teen Hooligans — Male or Female
Comedic yet intimidating.

We’re looking for performers who bring intensity, physicality, and exaggerated menace—very true to the movie.

Ensemble Groups
Ensemble roles represent various middle-school social groups and may overlap or double based on casting needs.

•Reporters

•Safety Patrol Members

•Löded Diper Band

•Jocks (often seen with Bryce Anderson)

•Nerds (distinct from Fregley)

•Artsy Kids (paintbrushes, wild colors, poetry lovers)

•Band Kids (always practicing or carrying instruments)

•Elementary School Kids

•Gospel Choir

•General Student Ensemble
